Flush Door: This is used for Guttmann doors only

If Flush Door, Depth of Jamb: This is used for Guttmann doors only

Measure the width of the door opening at the widest point. This is the distance between the right and left sides of the finished opening. Do not include the jamb seal (plastic trim with rubber flap). Your order will include new jamb seal. See W (WIDTH OF OPENING). Enter this measurement in cell W. Typically, the sides of the garage door will overlap the opening by 1-3 inches on each side to hide the safety edge strips from outside view. Depending on the system, the maximum width can be 30’ for a single door… 60’ for a double, split in the middle

Measure the height of the door opening at the highest point. This is the distance between the finished floor and the bottom trim of the finished opening. Do not include the jamb seal. See HD (HEIGHT OF OPENING). Enter this measurement in cell HD. Typically, the overall height of the garage door will be 1 inch taller than the opening to overlap. Depending on the system, the maximum height can be 14’

Measure the embrasure. For left opening doors (standing in the garage, looking out) use E1, for right opening doors use E2. This is the distance from the door jamb to the corner. This is called the Embrasure. See E1/E2 (EMBRASURE). Enter this measurement in cell E1 or E2 depending on your opening direction. For doors that meet in the middle (doesn’t have to be a 50/50 split), indicate both measurements. Check the applicable box for opening direction. The minimum embrasure is 6” for most garage door sections. If the embrasure is less than the section width, the door will close using a back-flip design which is an extra component of hardware

Measure the available headroom. This is the distance from the bottom of the trim for the door opening to the finished ceiling. See H (HEADROOM). Enter this measurement in cell H. Typically, for the Horizontal Garage Door systems, the minimum headroom is 4”. The minimum headroom for the Vertical Garage Door (Alulux Detolux) is 5-1/2”

Measure the side wall. The side to measure is determined by whether the door will open to the right (S1) or the left (S2) or both. The distance from the turning corner to the back of the garage is the sidewall depth. See S1/S2 (SIDEWALL DEPTH). Enter this measurement in cell S1 or S2 or both. Typically, the depth along the side wall should be at least the width of the door plus 2’. The door doesn’t have to travel along the side wall. In any case, the path of travel should be free of obstructions. Along the side wall, you can build a “false” wall in front of the garage door, when fully open, to gain back all valuable storage and wall space.

Determine the angle of the corner (Embrasure/Sidewall). The corner to measure is determined by whether the door will open to the right (A1) or the left (A2). See A1/A2 (ANGLE OF CORNER). Enter this measurement in cell A1 or A2. Typically, the minimum angle is 75 degrees. The maximum angle is 180 degrees. If your garage corner is at a right angle, enter 90 degrees
